How To Coo Like A Pigeon 101

its actually fairly easy to coo like a pigeon, effectively and realistically

ok first

1. learn to gurgle without water

odd as this sounds, this is the muscle that one uses to make the coo-ing sound. you know that little bit that dangles at the back of your throat (Uvula). yeah we're gonna be using that.

*Trivia point: you know some people can roll their 'r's by using the tip of their tongue? Well i cant, but i thought i could. Turns out i was actually using my uvula, which explains why it didn't always work 'right'. Though we don't use it in english pronunciation, the uvula rolling 'r' is actually a phoneme (sound) that is recognised on the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)*

- And also while looking for this diagram, i came across several pictures of people who had pierced their uvula. idiots -

back to the tutorial

2. say 'koo'

its fairly easy this step, no fancy diagrams

and finally

3. say 'koo' and gurgle at the same time

this sounds really weird at first, and probably more like a sick pigeon than anything else, but with some practice it'll work.

4. once you've started to get the hang on it you can then just drop the 'k' and make an 'oo' sound, as it sounds more like a pigeon.

but thats the general gist of it

Have Fun Coo-ing :)

about the name...

I can in fact bark like a dog

quite convincingly so i'm told

i mean you know its convincing when even dogs are fooled, they're supposed to have sensitive hearing and all that jazz. its quite sweet to watch them look around frantically for the invisible dog :P

on first hearing my dog impression i usually get two responses:

1. go on Britain's Got Talent

2. when and how did you find out you could bark like a dog?

in response to 1, yes i could go on britains got talent, but the thing is once you've heard it, the surprise is gone, and you cant really develop it further. well i suppose i could combine it with my singing skills... that could be interesting... not sure what the queen would make of it though

and in response to 2, i dont actually know. the earliest recollection i have of doing my bark was on a year 6 trip to wales, while we were walking around a lake in the evening, and i snuck up behind one of my mates and scared them :P

but there you go

i suppose i must have just woke up one morning and opened my mouth and barked

tells you what kind of person i am

the best way i can describe it really is by making an 'ahrw' sound, lifting the back of your tongue, and giving a good push with your diaphram.

and that probably isnt very helpful at all :P

I can also:
coo like a pigeon
hiss like an angry cat
meow like a cat
do strange monkey noises
oink like a pig
make a fish face
and make a rabbit face
